Shedding. Also, we sometimes fear it, because the old skin has grown to be a comfortable snugness of familiarity. Even if it's constricting. Even if it's constraining to the point it stems our circulation.
And then we resist the scratching of the cracked exterior because the tenderness of the rebirthed flesh beneath is almost too much to bear.
But once we let it go, completely let it slough off - falling to the ground to the dust where it belongs, we can truly experience life as it was meant to be.
